Just for the instructive value, this is also pretty easy to do on the command line with 'find' (for looking for files) and 'xargs' (for executing the copy). Now, if what you're after is to copy the files, then you want something like

find srcdir -iname *img* -print0 | xargs -0 -J % cp % destdir

But it might be more elegant (no idea how it works with iCloud) to use symlinks instead:

find srcdir -iname *img* -print0 | xargs -0 -J % ln -s % destdir

Basically, what this does is to use 'find' to locate files whose name matches the regular expression *img* (case insensitive, since I used -iname instead of -name), and then sends them to xargs, which takes them in batches and executes cp or ln -s with them. the "-print0"/"-0" pair is important when filenames have spaces in them, which they often do.

For bonus points, this should even work with mdfind, in case you want to take advantage of a your spotlight index to do even more advanced searches. ...

Since you're looking for improvements and feedback, here's a tip I hope you'll be able to employ: instead of writing hard-coded paths that users have to edit to match their username and whatnot, you can use the "path to _foo_ from _bar_ domain" constructs (with user, system, and network as domains). In this case:

tell application "Finder"
	set this_folder to (path to application support from user domain as string) & "iLifeAssetManagement:assets" as alias
	set target_folder to (path to pictures folder from user domain as string) & "MyStream" as alias
	[rest of script]
end tell

So for this script, the user only needs to change "MyStream" to the desired destination folder (and that can be set to be prompted for once at first execution and stored, so no editing would ever be required); no editing usernames or disk names required. Was not only MS that dropped support for legacy formats. Apple did the same with early MacWrite files. Diskette space was at a premium back then - the files were written compressed to take up as little room as possible so extracting the text just did not work (they were pure gibberish). I believe when MacWrite v5 came out, suddenly we could not open our archived writings. Oddly, I recall Word at the time would still open them. Years later when we were moving to a floppy-free environment we copied all the files from diskettes - including the 400k diskettes that only a Quadra 610 running MacOS 7.5 would recognize since support for the first Mac diskettes was dropped in 7.6 - but newer versions of Word had dropped support for old MacWrite files completely. That Quadra acted as our bridge to the past as it not only opened 400k diskettes and ran Word 5.1, but it also had Ethernet (via the appropriate AAUI dongle) so it could save the converted files directly to our file server. We also had files from MegaPlan and Microsoft File (gaaagh!) that we just gave up on trying to find a converter for. We salvaged what text we could out of them and just destroyed the diskett ...

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I was just looking for a way to set up an Airport network automatically and found this on ol' reliable MacOSXHints.com!

I found that networksetup includes a command to import a profile. From man networksetup:

     -import8021xProfiles service path
             Imports the 802.1x profiles for the specified service.

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to specify 128-bit WEP, and name the network and password. ;)

I can't get this to work on a Mac Pro (early 2008). StartupSound.prefPane used to work on Snow Leopard but not since I upgraded to Lion - @Interactive, are you sure it works for you, I thought prefPanes were disabled in Lion? I just wish that the Finder worked like it did in Snow Leopard. Previously I could set it o have a single finder in every space, now while I can have a finder in every space, they are different instances with different windows open, while I just want one finder in each space.

this is a killer tip. thanks... but i've observed a caveat: i wanted to use this to easily identify certain, less-important images that i wanted to move out of my iphoto library and into folders. so this tip allowed me to easily identify those images. however, when dragging images directly from the smart mailbox to a folder (in the dock in my case), if the photos being dragged have the same name as any of the photos in the destination folders, the finder does NOT alert you that there are conflicting names. instead, it simply does *nothing*. fortunately i discovered this before deleting the images from iphoto. the workaround is to first drag the images to the desktop, then into the destinaion folder. then, you're informed aboutt he same names and (in most cases) are given the option to "keep both versions.&qu ...

I've done some hacking based on previous comments, and the original de.anderson.sven.updateCheck. The updatecheck method no longer works because softwareupdate can only be run as root, also Growl has been updated, so that didn't work either.

A new fixed version is available here (right-click and save-as)

Place it in ~/Library/LaunchAgents and re-login or enter the following command in the Terminal:

launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/de.anderson.sven.updateCheck.plist ...
