Love my SSD. Like others, I hardly ever reboot (only when Software Update makes me), so while I do think the SSD improves boot speed, I don't much care about that. But it also dramatically improves context switching: I generally have quite a number of big apps alive, working for a while in, say, Pages, then in Emacs, then running a local Rails app, then Parallels running Windows, all the time with Mail, Tweetings, Skype, and Colloquy live, collecting community. This adds up to way more than my 8G RAM, so switching from one main app to another often involves a lot of paging. The SSD makes these context switches agile instead of ponderous.

My daughter has the latest iMac, with the SSD drive. It made sense for her, as she (autistic) gets very frustrated when her computer slows down. My hope is that the SSD drive will keep it speedy for a much longer time. I'm very impressed with the way she can go from log-in to ready-to-go in under 10 seconds. The 2nd script only unmounts local volumes as long as any besides the boot volume remain mounted, so it does what you want, unless everything is already unmounted. If you want to defeat its mounting ability, just remove everything between the last "else" and "end if". I don't know about Growl. I stopped using when it stopped being free. Anyway Mountain Lion will have that feature, so I might wait. As far as any other notification that all the local volumes have been ejected, I'll have to think about it. I have a mid-2011 MacMini i7 2.7 with an OCZ Agility 3 120GB drive and 16GB RAM. I kept the original drive in place and added the SSD with the iFixIt Dual Hard Drive Kit:

I just got a Pro 5,1 with a 64GB SSD. In bringing my stuff from a previous Mac (circa 1999 G4 - much upgraded) I had to put a lot of my stuff on the 1 TB real hard disk. My user account is on the SSD but I had to create soft links to the data on the real disk. The downside is that some applications don't want to follow soft links and force me to jump through hoops to get things to work. As a long time UNIX guy I'm disappointed that Mac-OS would not make the references completely transparent. Has anyone else encountered this problem ...
